Cause of drooping breasts

Breast drooping is caused by sudden weight loss, childbirth, breastfeeding and aging. Sudden weight loss is the main cause of breast drooping for single women, whereas married women normally experience breast drooping after childbirth. Patients that need to improve drooping must receive breast lift, whereas patients that need to improve drooping and enlarge size of breasts must receive augmentation mammoplasty with breast lift. Also, if the large size of breasts causes drooping, reduction mammoplasty (+breast lift) must be implemented. Patients that have small, drooping breasts can receive augmentation mammoplasty to improve both size and drooping.

Surgical method of drooping breasts

  • Case 1> Simple augmentation mammoplasty
  • Patients that have small, drooping breasts can receive augmentation mammoplasty based on implant insertion to improve both size and drooping of breasts. Surgery can be conducted by cutting through the upper part of the areola or through the surrounding part of the areola.
  • Case2> Breast lift
  • Breast lift is conducted in patients that large, drooping breasts. Surgery methods include the areola incision method and the vertical incision method.
  • Case 3> Augmentation mammoplasty + breast lift
  • Augmentation mammoplasty is carried out in patients that possess small, drooping breasts. Surgery can be conducted by cutting through the upper part of the areola or through the surrounding part of the areola.

Post-surgical care and complications

Special care is not required after surgery but patients must avoid smoking and drinking for 2 weeks. Possible complications include infection, hematoma, asymmetry, scarring, breastfeeding disorder and in some cases nipple or areola necrosis.
